Terms of Service
Version: 22 October 2026
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and PLEDGD LTD ("Pledgd", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16989178, registered office Flat D3504, 371 Deansgate, Manchester, England, M15 4US.
We ask you to accept these terms by ticking a box when you join, and again whenever we change them. We keep a record of the version you accepted and when. Each commitment you sign is a separate contract under the version of these terms you accepted at the time.
2. What Pledgd does
Pledgd lets you commit to a habit and authorise us to charge your card if you miss a scheduled check-in. You pay Pledgd. Pledgd is a commercial participator for Médecins Sans Frontières (UK), registered charity no. 1026588, under a written agreement made under the Charities Act 1992. When you miss a check-in, Pledgd charges your card once. That charge has two parts: the charity payment, 85% of your pledge rounded up to the nearest penny, which Pledgd gives in full to MSF UK; and Pledgd's platform fee, the other 15%. Pledgd pays card and banking costs out of its fee, never out of the charity payment. Pledgd keeps MSF UK's share in a separate bank account and pays it to MSF UK every month. The amount per missed check-in, the split and the most the commitment can cost you are shown before you sign.
3. Who can use Pledgd
You must be 18 or over, live in the United Kingdom and use a payment card issued in the United Kingdom that belongs to you. We ask you to confirm your age and where you live when you join, and we keep a record of that confirmation.
If we have reason to believe an account belongs to someone under 18, we will cancel its commitments, refund every charge taken and close the account.
4. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access.
5. The commitment charge
- When you create a commitment, you set the amount you will pay for each missed check-in. While Médecins Sans Frontières (UK) is our only charity partner, every commitment supports it. The amount, the split and the maximum total are shown to you before you sign.
- A check-in deadline is calculated in your stated time zone. We consider a check-in missed when the deadline passes without a check-in. Group pacts run on UK time: a Today pact covers one calendar day and ends at 23:59, and each week of a weekly pact runs from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59.
- When you miss a check-in, Pledgd charges your card once. That charge has two parts: the charity payment, 85% of your pledge rounded up to the nearest penny, which Pledgd gives in full to Médecins Sans Frontières (UK), registered charity no. 1026588; and Pledgd's platform fee, the remaining 15%. The fee is never taken out of the charity payment.
- If you join a group pact, it has one stake and one target that apply to every member, and you choose your own activity. A group pact is either a Today pact, which runs once on a single UK calendar day, or a weekly pact, which runs week after week. On its day, a Today pact locks and starts as soon as at least two members are in. Nobody can join it after it has started or after 21:00 UK time, and if fewer than two are in by 21:00 it does not run and no one is charged. Each week of a weekly pact locks at Monday 00:00 UK time once at least two members are in; if fewer than two are in, that week does not run and no one is charged. If any member locked in for that day or week misses the target, every member locked in for it is charged their own stake once, even if you met the target yourself. If everyone meets it, no one is charged, and if cancellations within the 14-day cancellation period leave fewer than two counted, no one is charged either. You are only ever charged your own stake, at most once per group per day or week, up to the maximum shown to you, and you must agree to this before joining. No money is paid to or from other members.
- You can pause or cancel a solo commitment at any time from the app. Cancelling stops all future charges. Charges already taken are not refunded, except when you cancel within the 14-day cancellation period (see Your right to cancel) or in the cases listed in section 6. In a weekly pact, a new week starts every Monday until you opt out with “I'm out next week” or “Leave pact” in the app, or the group's creator ends the pact for everyone. Each of these takes effect from the next Monday, so it does not change who is liable for a week that has already locked, and that week still settles; you can opt out of the next week until Sunday 23:59 UK time. A Today pact runs only once: leaving it or ending it before it locks means you are not charged, but once it has locked, neither changes who is liable for it, and it still settles. The one exception is cancelling within the 14-day cancellation period, which you do by contacting us: it takes effect straight away, your stake for the running day or week is void and you are not counted in it. For a Today pact, that right ends when its deadline passes (see Your right to cancel).
- Gift Aid does not apply. You pay Pledgd for its service, and Pledgd gives 85% of each missed-pledge charge to Médecins Sans Frontières (UK) as a commercial participator, so the payment is not a personal gift from you to the charity. MSF UK cannot claim Gift Aid on it, and you cannot claim tax relief on it.
6. Refunds and disputes
We refund a charge in full, to the card you paid with, when:
- you checked in on time but the app did not record it;
- Pledgd was down or not working when you tried to check in;
- you were charged twice, or charged a different amount from the one you agreed;
- you cancelled or paused a solo commitment before the deadline but were still charged (in a group pact, opting out or leaving never changes a day or week you were already locked into, so a charge for it is not a wrong charge);
- you cancelled within the 14-day cancellation period;
- you could not check in because you were seriously ill, in hospital, dealing with a family emergency or a bereavement, up to 2 times in any 12 months. We do not ask for medical evidence;
- you are in vulnerable circumstances or financial hardship, or have another legal right to a refund.
To ask for a refund, email [email protected] as soon as you can, ideally within 14 days of the charge (for illness, within 14 days). We still look at later requests, and this does not affect your legal rights. How we handle requests, and our response times, are set out at Charges, refunds and illness. If we refund a charge, the donation is reversed too; if it has already been paid to the charity, Pledgd covers the refund itself.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law, including your right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and any right to ask your card issuer to reverse a payment.
7. Your right to cancel
You have the right to cancel this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day of the conclusion of the contract. Each commitment you create or join is a separate contract. It is concluded when you tap Sign (or join a group commitment).
To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform us (PLEDGD LTD, Flat D3504, 371 Deansgate, Manchester, England, M15 4US, [email protected]) of your decision to cancel this contract by a clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post or e-mail). You may use the model cancellation form below, but it is not obligatory.
For a solo commitment, you can also cancel in the app: open the commitment and cancel it. For a group, contact us as above. If you cancel in the app, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.
Effects of cancellation
If you cancel this contract within the 14 days, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you under it, including the part already recorded as a donation (Pledgd covers it if the donation has already been paid to the charity). You asked us to start your commitment straight away, but we will not charge you for the days already tracked.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement.
One-off commitments: if your commitment has a single check-in and its deadline passes within the 14 days, the service has been fully performed. Because you asked us to start straight away and acknowledged this when you signed, you lose the right to cancel that commitment at that point.
Group pacts: your stake in a Today pact is a one-off commitment. Its deadline is 23:59 UK time on the pact's day, so your right to cancel it ends then. A weekly pact is not a one-off commitment: if you cancel it within the 14 days, we refund everything charged under it.

8. Charities
We choose the charities we support and may add or remove charities from the list. Adding or removing a charity never affects a commitment you have already signed, except that if our agreement with MSF UK ends, we will tell you, your commitments supporting MSF UK will stop, and no further charges will be made. We do not act as agent for any charity. We pay MSF UK's share every month; a charity payment is final once transferred, and any refund we give you after that is paid by Pledgd.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- create accounts using false information or someone else's payment method;
- use the service to launder funds or evade financial controls;
- interfere with the operation of the service or attempt to access other users' data;
- scrape or copy substantial parts of the service;
- put anything illegal, threatening, abusive, hateful or sexual in a group name, goal, commitment title or display name that other members can see, or use Pledgd to pressure someone into a commitment.
You can report content or behaviour to [email protected]. We review reports within 2 working days and may remove content, and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
10. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We will not charge for check-ins whose deadline falls during a sustained outage attributable to us, and we refund any such charge.
11. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) £100 or (b) the total amount you have paid us in that period. This limit never reduces a refund you are owed under these terms or by law. We do not exclude or limit liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in the courts of your home country.
13. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. We will tell you about material changes by email or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. You will be asked to accept the new version before you create or join another commitment. Changes never apply to a commitment you have already signed: it continues under the terms you accepted when you signed it.
14. Complaints
If you are unhappy with anything we have done, please follow our complaints procedure.
