Why Pledgd exists
Pledgd is a simple, structured way for friends to keep each other to a habit. You agree what you'll do, you check in, and the people in your pact see it.
Most of us have told a friend “I'm going to start running” and then not started. Saying it out loud helps for a week. What usually goes missing is a plan the friend can actually see: which days, by when, and whether it happened.
Pledgd gives that plan a shape. A pact has a habit, a schedule and a deadline. In a group pact, your buddies see each check-in. And because a plan is easier to skip when skipping costs nothing, a pact carries a stake you choose: £2 to £100 for each missed check-in on your own, or £10 to £500 in a group, for one day or each week, where everyone puts up the same stake, each on their own card.
We didn't want anyone to profit from a friend's miss. So when someone misses, 85% of the stake is donated to Médecins Sans Frontières UK (in a group, everyone's stake). We keep 15% to run Pledgd, and the receipt shows it as a separate part. Nobody in the pact gains from someone else's miss.
85% of every missed pledge is donated to the charity you chose, currently Médecins Sans Frontières (UK), registered charity no. 1026588. The other 15% is Pledgd's separate platform fee.
What we won't do
- Move money between users. Stakes never go to buddies or anyone else on Pledgd.
- Charge you up front. Nothing is charged when you sign up to a pact, only when a check-in is missed.
- Rank people by money. There is no money leaderboard.
